Choosing the Right Hors D’Oeuvres for Your Wedding

It’s engagement season and you know what that means? It’s time to start thinking about where you will be tying the knot, and if you will be using a caterer at your venue. We love working closely with couples to design the menu for their big day! We especially enjoy creating hors d’oeuvres for a festive cocktail hour.

Not only is cocktail hour one of the most enjoyable parts of the evening, it is also a time for guests to mingle and relax before the main festivities begin. That being said, it is essential to choose a well rounded menu that appeals to the group.

When choosing your selections remember to consider allergies, gluten-free items, and vegetarian selections.  Do you and your partner have favorite foods that hold special meaning to you?  For example, if your wedding is here in New England, our miniature lobster rolls might be the perfect choice – especially for out of town guests.  A good caterer will be happy to incorporate your unique couple story into the offerings.

For an hour long cocktail party you will want to choose 5-8 passed hors d’oeuvres.  Typically a well rounded menu includes 1-2 seafood, one beef and/or lamb, one poultry and two vegetarian items. Always be sure to include at least one gluten-free item on the menu.

Another great way to feed your guests at cocktail hour is to incorporate a stationary display, such as an artisan cheeses, charcuterie, or a raw bar in addition to passed hors d’oeuvres.
